👋 Hey there! I'm Sandra, and I'm excited to introduce you to LaterAcademia, the blog!👋

Glad you’re here. This space will serve as the home to the endless amount of knowledge and lessons-learned that I’ve accumulated over my +13yrs in my profession and my +3 decades on this planet 🌎, that I can’t really put anywhere else. You’ll see some guest appearances from some awesome human beings from my network, many who have their own rich, full-bodied lives too, and will have their own gems to share with the world 💎

A little bit about me, and the mission of LaterAcademia:

👼🏻Born and raised Chicagoan, first-gen (parents immigrated to the USA from Latin America), and travel lover 🛄

🚀 My academic journey began in the world of microbiology and basic science research, where I honed my skills and passion for science. Fast forward to 2011-2013, and I took a bold leap into the private sector, venturing into the dynamic realm of biotech as a field application scientist and technical account manager. The transition was both challenging and incredibly rewarding, and it ignited a mission within me.

🔬 At LaterAcademia, my mission is clear: to help STEM academic researchers and scientists navigate their career paths outside of academia, wherever that may be, all in the goal to bridge the gaps between business, science, and the public. I've been there, I've done that, and I've seen firsthand the incredible value that diverse backgrounds bring to industries like biotech and beyond.

Welcome to LaterAcademia, where your STEM expertise meets endless possibilities.

Keep an eye out for our upcoming Career Journeys Series, where I’ll be highlighting kick-ass researchers in my network! We’ll be discussing their career journeys, understand better why they chose careers outside of academia, and how they’ve navigated their current industries.
